New Post: Good isn't What We Think It Is - Bet you won't see the ending coming (:
Featured Faith Fragment
Although this video appears partisan at its outset, it just does a good job of commenting on the tendency of modernism that the public square has assumed to be opposed to the idea that the humans serving our country in the government would be anything but atheist. In the 1930s, the Mexican government did something very similar, claiming that Catholics were loyal to a foreign entity ahead of Mexico i.e. to be Catholic is to be treasonous by default. The initial premise is formally correct we are faithful to God over men if the two should be at odds (Acts 5:29, Mark 12:17). Where the logic falls short is the premise that loyalty to Christ always and everywhere contradicts loyalty to one’s country. On the contrary, God gives the government authority to govern man and serves the end of man’s justification by helping him be good. Christ Himself recognizes this, Peter and Paul implore us to civil obedience so long as it is not contrary to the commandments of Christ (John 19:11, Matthew 17:24–27., 1 Peter 2:13–25, Romans 13:1-2). Ultimately, this kind of talk comes from the fear of being made just by law which is the objective purpose it serves. Perhaps, people should learn that the law makes us happy because it makes us good, and choosing goodness is what love is. All of this testifies to the message of the post.
